Pedestrian 'critical' after collision

AN ELDERLY woman pedestrian is in critical condition in hospital after being in collision with a motorist from west Kent.

The woman was walking in Lewes Road, Ringmer, east Sussex, when the incident happened at about 7.40pm on Saturday.

Nikki Marshall, a Sussex Police press officer, said: "The woman sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where she remains in a critical condition."

She added: "The male driver of the car is a man in his 30s from Cranbrook.

"Sussex Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who saw any pedestrians walking in the carriageway at that time and would ask them to telephone 0845 60 70 999 and quote Operation Carisbrooke."
