Review: Peter Andre, Rochester Castle Concerts, Thursday, July 14

by Anna White

Lovable pop star Peter Andre proved his music has matured since he hit the big time – but couldn’t resist a trip down memory lane during his Castle Concerts gig.

The singer performed songs from his most recent albums, Accelerate and Revelation, to a sold-out crowd on Thursday night.

But Andre, 38, delivered a treat to his most loyal fans with a rendition of Mysterious Girl – the song in which he first revealed his now-famous six pack.

This time he chose to keep his toned torso out of sight, but that didn’t stop about 4,500 fans, mainly female, screaming at the top of their lungs.

Other songs included Flava and I Feel You, both from his 1996 album Natural, and more recent ones Call the Doctor, Behind Closed Doors and Defender.

The singer finished the night at the castle, which he described as a “stunning place for a concert”, with new song Perfect Night. After the gig, he posted on Twitter: “Wow wow wow. Just sold out Rochester Castle and we rocked it. Thank you so much.”

Andre charmed the crowd with his down-to-earth personality and proved his worth as a talented singer. But the Celebrity Dad of the Year was almost outshone by his six-year-old son Junior, who came on stage before his dad to greet the excited crowd. The dad-of-two and step-father to nine-year-old Harvey – son of his former wife Katie Price – said his daughter Princess Tiaamii, four, was also backstage.

Junior did his best to warm up the crowd, but support acts Paradise Point, an up-and-coming boy band, and former X Factor finalists The Reason 4 had it covered.

The four-man band received almost as many screams as the main act.

They performed Cheryl Cole’s Fight for This Love, which they sang at the first X Factor audition, and their debut single Take It All.

A warm welcome was also given to kmfm Drivetime presenter Andy Walker, who hosted the event.
