A YOUNG woman killed when a car in which she was travelling crashed into a lamppost has been identified by police.

She was 20-year-old Abby Groves, from St Paul's Cray, Orpington. She died when the Suzuki Alto in which she was a front seat passenger crashed into a lamppost at Bromley Common, shortly before 11.45pm on Saturday.

Police say she was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters were called to free people from the wreckage.

The driver, a woman in her late teens or early 20s, was taken to a south London hospital suffering from serious facial injuries. Three rear seat passengers, a man and two women in their late teens or early 20s, suffered less serious injuries.

All four have now been discharged from hospital.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned and police are awaiting the results of a post mortem.
