An investigation is underway after a prisoner who was on remand was discovered hanging in his Kent cell.

Jamie Sioux was found in his single cell at Category C Elmley Prison on the Isle of Sheppey at 8.05am on Thursday.

The 33 year-old, who was on remand for harassment, was pronounced dead a short time later. He was not on suicide watch.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "Our sympathies are with Mr Sioux's family.

"As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
