RELIEF at seeing the man who raped her found guilty has prompted a young, former prostitute to speak about life on the streets.

The woman, who cannot be named, was attacked while she was walking through a park in Rochester, on April 1.

A jury at Maidstone Crown Court found university student Mohammed Khan, 20, guilty of raping the woman. He had denied three charges of rape and is due to be sentenced on January 11.

She said: "I'll never forget the feeling of thinking I was going to die.

"It sounds a cliche, but I always thought that if I was attacked, then I would put it out of my mind and then I'd think it would only happen to others."

She reported the rape to a nearby police patrol and, several weeks later, picked out Khan, then living in Ordnance Street, Chatham, at an identification procedure.

The woman says she turned to prostitution just over a year ago to make ends meet.

"It was never about drugs," she added. "I just did it to earn good money to pay the bills."

She went back to the streets after the attack. However, she says she has now given up that part of her life for good.
