Robber holds up bakery with 'toy pistol'

DETECTIVES are seeking witnesses to a robbery at a Kent bakery shop early today.

A man wearing a balaclava entered the Mr Pastry bakery in Belmont Road, Ramsgate, just before 8am.

He pointed what appeared to be a silver children’s toy pistol at the 55-year-old woman behind the counter and demanded cash.

The woman handed over a small amount of money and the robber ran out of the shop and along Belmont Road towards the high street.

Kent Police spokesman Dougal Bell said: "The woman was not hurt during the incident.

"The robber is described as being of slight build, about 5ft 3in tall. He was wearing a black balaclava, a dark jumper with small logo on the front, grey jogging bottoms and dark woolly gloves."

Anyone who saw the man or who knows his identity is asked to contact Det Sgt Claire Munday at Margate Police Station (01843) 222 192.
