IMIELA: serving seven life sentences

A KENT man has finally confessed in a letter to his wife from prison that he did attack and rape seven women and young girls.

A Sunday newspaper has reported that Antoni Imiela admitted his crimes just weeks after being given seven life sentences at Maidstone Crown Court.

Imiela, 49, of Heathside, Appledore, near Ashford, had maintained not guilty pleas throughout the seven-week trial and claimed he had been framed for the attacks by police.

In the hand-written note he said to wife, Christine: "It is important now for myself to tell you I am responsible and guilty - I became a rapist."

The newspaper claimed he wrote the letter two weeks ago. Last month a jury found Imiela guilty of seven rapes, indecent assault, attempted rape and kidnap. They failed to reach a verdict on two other rape charges, which remained on file.
