A Kent harbour has been given the all-clear after a suspect package scare.

Parts of Whitstable Harbour were evacuated earlier today after the device, thought to be a mortar head fuse, was delivered to the coastguard's office in a carrier bag with a note saying "it might be dangerous" at around 9am.

Part of the harbour was sealed off and bomb disposal experts called. Workers from Brett Aggregates, the harbour office and Cardium Shellfish were made to leave their premises for about an hour.

Coastguard rescue officer and foreshore manager Matt Stickels has urged people not to pick up or move suspicious objects.

He said: "If you think it is something suspicious, contact 999 and ask for the coastguard."
