DETECTIVES have released this image of a man they want to speak to in connection with an attempted robbery of a taxi driver.

The driver, a man in his 50s, had just dropped a customer at Adrian Square, Westgate, at about 5.30pm on Friday, April 15 and was pulling away when a man in his 20s came out of the park entrance, flagged him down, and gestured that he wanted to know the time.

The driver stopped and wound down his window. The man then leaned into the window, demanded money and tried to grab the driver’s cash bag and car keys.

During the struggle the man put his arm around the driver’s throat. Eventually the man ran off empty handed.

Police say that the robber speaks with an accent, is 5ft 9in tall, of medium build, with black short hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Andy Eley on 01843 222 151.
