THREE young men have been jailed for the vicious gang rape of a 16-year-old girl.

The girl was attacked in Queens Gardens in the centre of Bromley, on April 16, last year.

Geron Miller, 18, of Trenholme Road, south east London, and Mohammedet Hassan, 18, of Concorde Way, south east London, were both imprisoned for an indeterminate period for the public’s protection.

A 17-year-old from south east London, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to seven and a half years and must also serve an extended licence of five years, meaning he will go back to jail if he commits any other criminal offence within five years of being released.

The three originally denied the offence but pleaded guilty shortly before a trial was due to start, at Croydon Crown Court.

Sentencing them on Tuesday, Judge Macrae told them they had "behaved like animals", they had adopted "a pack mentality", that their "conduct was callous" and that "the victim had been used for their self gratification".

He awarded £500 to an 18-year-old woman who witnessed the attack, left her home to intervene and brought the incident to a stop.
