An elderly lady is fighting for her life after her mobility scooter was involved in a crash with a recovery van.

The victim was crossing Scanlons Bridge Road in Hythe at around 10.20am when it happened.

The woman has been airlifted for treatment at a London hospital.

Forensic officers are currently at the scene carrying out an investigation.

Dymchurch Road was closed either end of Scanlons Bridge Road and a diversion was put in place.

It caused long tailbacks and delays but has now been lifted.

Police said the road is expected to be closed for several hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798 538.
