It may have sunk when it struck an iceberg but this Titanic should run and run.

Members of Herne Bay Operatic Society stage Titanic the Musical at the Marlowe Theatre this week – with one of TV’s most recognisable talent scouts as its figurehead.

Nicki Chapman, of Popstars and Pop Idol fame, is president of the society. The 41-year-old is former St Ansem’s School pupil.

“It’s just great to be involved,” said Nicki. “This is the first time the society has put on Titanic the Musical and I don’t think the show is that well known even though it was a huge, huge hit on Broadway.”

Music promoter Nicki, who grew up in Herne Bay, joined the society aged five.

“I have such fond memories of all the shows I was involved with,” she said. “But I don’t think any of them were quite on the scale of Titanic the Musical.”

The show runs nightly up to and including Saturday. Performances start at 7.30pm with additional matinees on Thursday and Saturday, both at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost from £11 to £15 from the theatre box office on 01227 787787.
