Warning after bag-snatchers target woman, 80

A woman of 80 was reunited with her handbag after it was snatched in Margate thanks to a swift team effort involving police, comunity support officers, a community warden and store security staff.

The woman flagged down PC Terry Vine and PCSO Mark Comley after her bag was grabbed while she was in Birthdays store in the High Street just after 3pm on Thursday, November 27.

The offenders ran off down the High Street.

A description of the offender was put out over the radio to other officers.

The two suspects were spotted by PCSO Michelle Stovold and followed with the help of town warden Roy Simmons and store security staff.

They were caught by officers in New Street

Now shoppers have been warned to keep a close eye on bags, purses and wallets, especially after they have been to the bank or a post office.

Arrests: A 15-year-old girl and 22-year-old woman have been bailed until January 14.
