Welling's owners have hit back at their players over public claims about late paying of wages.

The club's management and playing staff issued a statement following Saturday's defeat to Dover, expressing their concern that wages were still not up to date.

But the club have now expressed their disappointment at the timing as they look to get the Wings back on a stable financial footing.

"The club like the supporters is hugely appreciative of the efforts of the players and management team who so far this season have produced a strong performance despite the off the field challenges," said Welling owners Barrie (pictured) and Barry Hobbins.

"Whilst there are elements of truth within the statement the club's view is that the facts that have been presented in a way to make matters seem far worse than is actually the case.

"We will not go into details within the statement as it is our considered opinion that the worldwideweb is not the place to be discussing the wages and personal circumstances of our employees.

"More importantly, it does nothing but hinder the club's ongoing attempts to resolve the financial challenges that it is faced with.

"The club, as previously stated, is in the midst of a crucial financial review. Real progress has been made but matters are far from being concluded and we are continuing to negotiate the support of our key creditors to ensure we have a viable business model moving forwards."

Welling's players had stated: "We have experienced problems with the payment of wages and match bonuses since November 2010.

"Despite what may have been said at one point during this period our wages were four weeks behind.

"Though we were assured that the wage problem would be resolved by 1 January 2011, at the present time we are still owed one and half weeks wages and there are also bonus payments outstanding.

"Regrettably, at times we have been promised payments but those promises have not been fulfilled and there is no clear indication of when the monies owed will be paid."

Welling did not play a home league game between November 13 and the turn of the year, losing a potentially lucrative home game with Bromley over the Christmas period, while just 739 fans turned up for last weekend's derby with Dover.
