Woman dies crossing A21 at Pembury after breaking down

A woman killed when she was hit by a car early today was crossing the road after breaking down.

The 31-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, on the A21 at Pembury, at about 12.30am.

Kent Police have revealed her Ford Mondeo had broken down opposite the Shell garage at Pembury Road, Castle Hill.

The woman, from Basingstoke, Hampshire, was hit by a grey Citroen C5 as she crossed the single-carriageway.

The driver of the Citroen was breath-tested at the scene for alcohol, but none was found. No arrests have been made.

The coroner and the victim’s next of kin have been informed of the death.

Kent Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or either vehicle earlier to phone the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 738538.
