Words of hate mailed to firefighters

FIRE crews in Whitstable have received another piece of hate mail following the latest strike.

An anonymous card accuses them of being lazy and greedy, before suggesting they go and join troops in Iraq.

It is the third letter sent to the fire station since the strikes began and a spokesman said it was frustrating for the crew. He commented: "This is obviously from someone who is misinformed and doesn't understand.

"Most people in Whitstable are very sympathetic and if they have questions or don't agree with what we are doing we are more than happy to speak to them."

He added: "We had a discussion with one man during the last strike for one and a half hours and at the end he accepted our point of view.

"I only wish more people would take the time to educate themselves so they can interpret the information in the media and understand it."
