Charlton have clinched the signing of Portsmouth defender Martin Cranie on loan until the end of 2008.

The deal was completed just 20 minutes before the end of the transfer window.

The Addicks are also still discussing the length of Linvoy Primus' loan with the deal expected to be completed after September 8.

Cranie, who can play at right-back or centre-half, has seven caps for England under-21s.

He is currently with the national side for a European Championship qualifier against Portugal at the end of the week.
