Charlton Athletic 0 - 0 West Bromwich Albion

CHARLTON handed Marcus Bent his first start on Tuesday night but still drew a blank against lowly West Brom.

The Addicks missed out on a chance to move into the top half of the Premiership table as they posted only their third draw of the season.

The home side's route one tactics failed to make much progress against a West Brom side that had scored just four goals on their travels all season.

Leading scorer Darren Bent should have given Charlton a 28th-minute lead but he dragged his left-foot shot wide with just keeper Tomasz Kuszczak to beat.

West Brom, who had already gone close through Jonathan Greening, were denied by the woodwork six minutes before half-time when Geoff Horsfield lost Bryan Hughes at the far post but saw his header clawed onto the upright by Thomas Myhre.

Charlton only threatened when they switched to a passing game but Luke Young's low cross was somehow cleared and Hughes headed over when well-placed.

Charlton: Myhre, Young, Fortune, Hrediarsson, Powell, Ambrose (Thomas 73), Smertin, Holland (Kishishev 43), Hughes, M Bent (Bothroyd 83) D Bent.
Subs Not Used: Andersen, Spector.
Attendance: 25,921.
