CHARLTON were beaten 3-1 on Saturday night when they took on La Liga side Valencia in their third pre-season game at the Mestall stadium.

The Spanish side raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from former Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes and skipper Ruben Baraja.

Substitute Gonzalo Sorondo pulled a goal back for the Addicks after the break, but Silva wrapped up the victory for Valencia late on.

New Charlton boss Iain Dowie took a look at a number of players by making eight substitutions.

Charlton's next match is against Nationwide Conference South side Welling United at Park View Road on Wednesday evening.
