CHARLTON are closing in on Denmark winger Dennis Rommedahl after agreeing an undisclosed fee with his club PSV Eindhoven.

Rommedahl is on duty with the Danish national team at Euro 2004 and will hold talks with Charlton when the competition is over.

He said: "After eight years in Holland I am ready for something new and I think the Premier League and Charlton will suit me."

Charlton chief executive Peter Varney yesterday distanced the club from speculation linking them with Rommedahl.

He said: "Whether or not we are interested in players at the championships, it is widely known that the national team managers will not allow any of their players to conduct transfer negotiations while they are still involved."
