Former Charlton keeper George Howard could be the answer to Martin Allen’s goalkeeper dilemma.

Gills boss Allen is on the hunt for a back-up to first choice keeper Stuart Nelson.

Howard was released by Charlton at the end of the 2011/12 campaign and spent the next season with Bromley.

He played against the Gills in a pre-season game at Hayes Lane earlier this month.

Allen said: “He played well for Bromley in front of our supporters who were there.

“I didn’t take him at the time because he needed to do some work on his body. He has done that work and we had a chat with him on Tuesday afternoon.

“Nothing has been signed or sealed. He is only young. He broke his leg while he was at Charlton and we’ll see how that one pans out in the next few days."
