JOHNNY ARMOUR: big night ahead
JOHNNY ARMOUR: big night ahead

CHATHAM boxer Johnny Armour is hoping for the thing his heart most desires on Valentine’s Day - the WBU bantamweight belt.

Armour will finally get the chance to win the title back from Australian Nathan Sting - who easily beat the former champion in July - on February 14.

Barry Hearn’s Matchroom Sport, who will stage the fight, confirmed the date and said they were hoping to put the fight on at a London venue, although it may have to take place in the Midlands.

But the Medway man has been in the gym for the last three months preparing for the fight and is delighted to finally have a date.

Armour, 35, was originally told that the fight would take place in January but due to TV scheduling, the date has now been set for February.

He said: “I’ve never trained as hard for a fight than this and I feel better than ever. I could go in and beat Sting now and I’ll be even sharper come the fight. I know this could be my last chance and I’m going to be ultra-professional and do everything right."
