BYFIELD: already sidelined for a large part of the season

GILLINGHAM could be without striker Darren Byfield for tonight’s League 1 home match against Doncaster.

The Gills striker is suffering with a recurrence of the knee injury that has already sidelined him for a large part of the season.

Manager Ronnie Jepson will be looking for major improvements from the club’s last outing, where they were beaten 5-0 by Colchester.

Despite Byfield’s possible absence, Jepson is able to call upon several others, with Andy Hessenthaler, Jon Wallis and Brent Sancho all recovering from various ailments.

Doncaster come into the game off the back of two cup wins, beating Premiership side Aston Villa 3-0 in the Carling Cup and a 2-1 FA Cup win at Boston.

Jepson said: “It’s going to be an extremely difficult game. It’s not a bad game to play in and we’ve got to be right at it.

“They are honest lads and they’ve apologised for their performance at Colchester and I apologised to the supporters on their behalf.

“But talk is cheap and we’ve got to produce on the pitch, become better players and go from there.”
