DARREN BENT has become the first Charlton striker to score 20 goals in all competitions in a top flight season in more than 50 years.

Bent slotted home the opening goal from the penalty spot in the club's 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday.

The last player to achieve that number of goals for the club was Eddie Firmani in 1955.

Bent is the top scoring English player in the Premiership and his form in his first season at The Valley has put him in contention for a place in Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad.
