Combe too strong for basement side

Westcombe Park 67 Nuneaton 19

WESTCOMBE Park closed the gap on leaders Manchester after thrashing bottom side Nuneaton 67-19 in National League 2 on Saturday.

It took just three minutes for the Nuns defence to be breached when full-back Sam Naden skipped through to score.

Tom Carruthers added the second try on nine minutes with Will David adding the extras.

Further tries from Carruthers, Adam Slade (3) and Steve Croall along with two conversions from David gave Combe a seemingly unbeatable 41-0 lead at half-time.

In the second half, Combe continued where they left off when Croall crashed over for his second try of the afternoon, David's conversion pushing their lead to 48 points.

Combe added another converted try on 50 minutes before Nuneaton pulled a try back.

Slade then crossed again and David's conversion stretched their lead to 62-5.

Sam Barnett completed the rout two minutes later after a Nuneaton player was beaten by a rogue bounce in the corner.

With two Combe players sitting out the last 10 minutes in the sin bin, Nuneaton scored two late consolation tries which were both converted.
