CHARLTON manager Iain Dowie has expressed his admiration for new loan signing Scott Carson.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper has joined the Addicks on a season-long loan from Liverpool and is widely regarded as one of the best young keepers in the Premiership.

Dowie said: "I've watched him for many years since my days at Oldham when I watched him at Leeds and always liked him. He will bring size and composure to our defence."

However, Dowie, who watched Carson play for the England Under-21s in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Moldova, added: "He was keen to come but has a battle on his hands with competition from Thomas Myhre and Stephan Andersen."
