A LAST-LAP collision between two title contenders handed Ross Garrett the British Truck Racing Association title in dramatic fashion at the final meeting of the year at Brands Hatch.

Garrett’s third consecutive victory in race one put him in contention with championship leader Steve Horne and David Jenkins to contest the title.

In the second race, pole-sitter Garrett held off the challenge of Richard Walker in the early laps before an amazing clash between Horne and Jenkins at Druids handed Garrett the title by a single point from Jenkins.

The thrilling wet-weather action was a suitable climax to a closely contested season for the 1,000bhp machines.

Garrett’s win in the day’s opening race followed a double success in Pembury, Wales in the last round.

He passed pole-sitter Walker at Paddock Hill Bend on the fourth of the eight laps, with Jenkins holding off Horne to take third.

In the second race, Garrett was hotly pursued from pole before Walker went off in spectacular style at Graham Hill Bend. Behind him, Horne crept up on Jenkins and looked the faster driver until the clash on the final lap.

Jenkins recovered to finish fifth but it was not enough to salvage the title.
