Fleet suffer fifth straight defeat

Burton Albion 3 Ebbsfleet 1

Ebbsfleet United suffered a fifth consecutive defeat in the Blue Square Premier after losing 3-1 at Burton Albion on Saturday.

The home side took the lead after just three minutes when Keith Gilroy's cross found left-back Aaron Webster unmarked to score.

And Gilroy was on hand to score himself nine minutes into the second half after an initial effort had hit the bar.

Kezie Ibe pulled one back for the Fleet just before the hour mark after excellent work from Michael Gash.

But any hope of a comeback was dashed on 81 minutes when Webster was on hand again to head in another Gilroy cross.

Ebbsfleet had defender Mark Ricketts dismissed in injury-time to rub salt into the wounds.

Ebbsfleet: Cronin, Ricketts, Smith (Hand 88), Charles, Opinel, Shakes, Stone, Barrett, Long (Purcell 61), Ibe (Bowes78), Gash. Subs not used: French, Pooley.

Attendance: 1,584.
