Lincoln 2 Gillingham 0

Gillingham slumped to their fourth away defeat of the season at Lincoln on Tuesday night.

Two goals in the opening 14 minutes of the match left Gillingham fighting an uphill battle from the start.

With 12 minutes gone Lincoln took the lead as Stefan Oakes cross was headed home unchallenged by Lee Frecklington.

Just two minutes later Lincoln doubled the lead as Gillinghams defence opened up for Dany NGuessan and the wideman netted with relative ease past Simon Royce.

The Imps dominated the half and Gillinghams best effort came from Adam Miller, who twice struck over from distance, and Mark McCammon, who also fired high and wide.

Just minutes into the second half the Gills had a let off, when referee David Webb pointed to the spot following Barry Fullers challenge on NGuessan. Luckily for Gillingham the linesmans flag had already gone up for offside.

The Gills made an enforced switch on the hour when McCammon hobbled off and on came Albert Jarrett. The replacement was quickly involved and shot over on 67 minutes.

Gillingham ended the game without a shot on target and defeat on their travels once again.

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson said: The two goals we conceded were poor. The first was a cross in the box and the smallest player on the field, apart from Barry fuller, got on the end of it and had a free header. That should never happen.

Its up to people in their area to take responsibility and win the ball but ours didnt and we go a goal down against the run of play.

For the second goal, the tackle on the half way line should have been stronger, it wasnt and we allowed the player to run all the way into our box. He had a free shot away and that was disappointing. That wasnt in our plan.

I said at half-time, can we do another Bradford and pull it back? Credit to the players, they had a go, but we never threatened the goalkeeper and we didnt have enough belief to get into that area and chuck the ball into the box and for someone to get on the end of it.
