Nottingham Forest 1 Gillingham 0

NOTTINGHAM Forest lead Gillingham 1-0 at half-time in this afternoon’s crucial match at the City Ground.

Wes Morgan was left totally unchallenged to volley home on 28 minutes after Jason Brown had saved his initial header.

It was a blow for Stan Ternent’s side who are looking to win to ensure Championship survival.

Andrew Crofts was brought into the starting line-up in place of Darius Henderson and he came close to putting the visitors in front with a 16th minute headed that went wide.

Mike Flynn forced a good save from Forest keeper Colin Doyle on 25 minutes and seconds later Mamady Sidibe headed straight at the keeper when he could have done better.

Sidibe came even closer five minutes after Forest took the lead, but his shot was blocked after he had gone round the keeper.

Doyle made a fine double save, first from Paul Smith and then from Andrew Crofts to deny the Gills just before the break.

The closest the home side came to scoring early on was a Neil Harris effort that was cleared by Jay McEveley.

As it stands, the Gills will stay up because Crewe are losing 1-0 at home to Coventry. Crewe are currently two points behind Gillingham in the final relegation place.

Gills: Brown, Nosworthy, Ashby, Cox, McEveley, Southall, Smith, Flynn, Crofts, Douglas, Crofts, Sidibe. Subs: Banks, Hessenthaler, Jarvis, Henderson, Byfield.
