Dover v Gillingham

Gillingham face two non-league sides in two days this week as the management team begin to finalise the league starting line-up.

The Gills travel to Dover tonight (Tuesday), before the club’s penultimate pre-season test on Wednesday night, when a Gills XI face Aveley.

Manager Mark Stimson finished with a strong side against Birmingham and apart from absentees Nicky Southall and Mark McCammon he feels the team isn’t far away from that which will start at Bournemouth on August 9.

“All we’re aiming for is that game in two weeks time,” he said. “If you looked at the keeper, defensive four and midfield four and Jackson that’s not going to be far off from who will start off at Bournemouth, providing they’re all fit and put in two more good shifts at Dover and Thurrock (on Saturday).”

Southall returns after missing Saturday’s game to attend a funeral while striker Mark McCammon’s hamstring injury will be assessed with caution.

Trialist winger Alistair John (hamstring) will hope to be fit and will feature along with other hopefuls Michael Burns and Leslie Thompson.
