Hess: We can give Chelsea the blues

GILLINGHAM are ready to inflict more humiliation on Premier League Chelsea when the two clubs meet for the third time in four seasons next month at Stamford Bridge in the Worthington Cup.

Chelsea, dumped out of the UEFA Cup by little Viking Stavanger on Thursday, were handed another potential banana skin with Saturday’s third round home draw against Gillingham on either November 5 or 6.

Morale at Stamford Bridge was not helped Sunday's last minute 1-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield which followed a home defeat in the Premier League by bottom club West Ham.

As manager Claudio Ranieri sought to pour oil on the troubled waters flowing through Stamford Bridge, Gillingham player-manager Andy Hessenthaler cranked up the pressure on Chelsea when he said: “Chelsea might have an off day and if we perform well anything could happen.

"The pressure is on them because they are expected to beat us. We’re all looking forward to playing in a magnificent stadium.”

Gillingham supporters are now waiting anxiously to discover the price of tickets at notoriously expensive Stamford Bridge.
