Chesterfield 0 - 0 Gillingham

CHESTERFIELD are causing Gillingham plenty of problems at Saltergate this afternoon but the scoreline remains blank at half-time.

The home side almost took the lead after 20 minutes but Kevan Hurst's first-time effort from 12 yards cannoned back off Jason Brown's crossbar.

Soon afterwards Jamie O'Hara shot just over from 20 yards and then Brown saved superbly from Derek Niven.

Chesterfield came close again nine minutes before the break when Aaron Downes was allowed to win a header far too easily, but fortunately for Gillingham he directed it narrowly over the bar.

The home side also had a penalty claim turned down after they thought Andrew Crofts had handled in the box.

Gillingham suffered an early blow when Ian Cox was forced off injured, with Chris Hope coming on to replace him at the heart of the defence.

Gillingham: Brown, Clohessy, Cox (Hope 16), Johnson, Jackman, Black, Spiller, Pouton, Crofts, Byfield, Harris.
Subs: Crichton, Rose, Grant, Mulligan.
