Bristol City 4 Gillingham 3

GILLINGHAM were dumped out of the FA Cup by Bristol City on Sunday after a first half to forget.

The Gills were three goals down before half time after defensive errors handed City the advantage.

Home striker Phil Jevons was able to complete a simple hat-trick after Gillingham's defenders handed him chance after chance.

A gallant fight back in the second half followed but by then the Gills were always chasing the game.

Gary Mulligan grabbed a goal just after the re-start but Enoch Showunmi's effort restored the home side's three goal lead on 64 minutes.

Captain Michael Flynn then netted with a looping header and in the last minute scored a penalty, after Leon Johnson had been pushed in the area, but there was no time to finish the job and take the tie to a replay.

Gillingham: Jack, Jupp, Johnson, Sancho, Easton, Bentley, Crofts, Flynn, Jarvis, Mulligan, McDonald (Ndumbu-Nsungu 46).
Subs not used: Jackman, Clohessy, Spiller, Savage.
Attendance: 5,663.
