Simon Royce has shaken off his ankle injury that plagued him during the final weeks of last season.

The Gillingham keeper came through last week’s training without a problem and will be fit and ready for the club’s opening pre-season match next week against Stevenage.

Gills manager Mark Stimson said: “It was great to see Simon Royce back in between the sticks.

“We’ve got a clean bill of health now. Royce joined in the bleep test as well and when we got the balls out he went in goal and he’ll enjoy the trip to Spain.”
