Kent hope for limited success on two fronts

KENT will hope for Twenty20 Cup progress and a decent start to their NatWest Pro40 campaign from a hectic schedule of three, crucial limited overs games within four days from Sunday, all of which are televised.

Coming off the back of gruelling championship matches against Sussex and Lancashire, Spitfires make their bow in the new-look NatWest Pro40 campaign against Surrey in Guildford on Sunday, starting at 1.45pm.

Kent’s previous trip to the Woodbridge Road Ground led to a resounding championship win last summer following a stunning innings by South African Justin Kemp, who is replaced for this visit by Tyron Henderson.

The following evening, Spitfires return to the crash, bang wallop of Twenty20 with Monday night’s quarter-final clash against Leicestershire at Grace Road.

The tie, which is also live on Sky Sports from 5pm, represents Kent’s first appearance in the cup’s knock-out stages against Jeremy Snape’s Foxes side, who have reached finals day in each of the first three years of the event.

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo will make his cup debut against Leicestershire, who look set to include former Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Paul Nixon.

Then, on Wednesday evening Rob Key’s side are back in front of the Sky cameras again, this time in Taunton for a floodlit NatWest Pro40 game against Somerset Sabres.

Facing up to their second season in the national league second division, Kent will be hoping to make a racing start in this re-vamped competition in order to re-claim their top-flight status at the second time of asking.

Sabres, who finished eighth in Division 2 last summer, expect to name England’s Ian Blackwell and former Spitfires and Middlesex all-rounder Peter Trego in their line-up. The match starts at 4.40pm.
