Late Saunders equaliser cheers Gills

Grimsby 1 Gillingham 1

MARK Saunders scored an 88th minute equaliser to earn Gillingham a point at Grimsby on Saturday at Blundell Park.

Gillingham were trailing to John Oster's 77th minute goal and looked to be heading for defeat when Saunders intervened.

Substitute Tommy Johnson delivered an excellent cross from the left and the spring-heeled Saunders rose above the home defence to head home powerfully.

Goalkeeper Jason Brown had earlier kept Gillingham in the game with a series of exceptional saves to deny Grimsby top-scorer Steve Kabba.

Attendance: 5,715.
