New boy gets the nod in August Gills poll

Gillingham midfielder Curtis Weston has taken little time to impress himself on the club's fans.

The tough-tackling player walked away with the man-of-the-match award on Saturday and this week was voted Kent Messenger Group player of the month for August.

Weston signed a two-year deal with the Gills last week, following a brief loan spell from Leeds and his four league appearances have already shown what promise the 21-year-old has.

The former Millwall man is best remembered for becoming the youngest player to play in an FA Cup final, after replacing Dennis Wise on 89 minutes in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in 2004 at the age of 17 years 119 days but he’s now hungry for some more career highlights.

"That was a few years ago now but it’s still my highlight and that was fantastic for me," he said.

"I want to go back into League 1 and the Championship and want to do it with Gillingham.

"With the quality we’ve got, we can go straight back up to League 1 and hopefully get back into the Championship."
