Old enemies meet again

FOR the second successive season and for the 13th time in total Kent and Warwickshire will do battle in next month’s Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy after the clubs were again drawn together in the quarter-final draw.

Former England skipper turned Sky Sports pundit Nasser Hussain drew the relevant balls out of the velvet bag ensuring the two old adversaries would lock horns again.

Kent will travel to Edgbaston on either July 15 or 16 ensuring a painfully quick return to the scene of two one-day drubbings over the last few months.

On May 1 Warwickshire eased to a 19-run victory after amassing 279 for seven in 45 overs off the back of a superb 122 not out from Nick Knight.

The former England left-hander also proved Kent’s nemesis when he steered his side to a nine-wicket victory in Birmingham at the same stage of the 2004 Trophy competition.

Recent history between the two counties and the fact that the Bears have a historical edge with seven wins to Kent’s five, ensures this will be another tough trip to the second city.

As if it were needed, the tie receives added spice as Kent will again come up against their former coach John Inverarity and ex-player Alex Loudon, who made a controversial move to Edgbaston in the close season.

Ties to be played on July 15 and 16; all matches have a reserve day.

Quarter final draw:

Lancashire v Sussex/Nottinghamshire
Surrey v Hampshire
Warwickshire v Kent
Yorkshire v Northamptonshire
