Pennock expecting stern examination in Cup

CHE STADHART: his chances of playing are rated 50/50

Folkestone Invicta v Welling United

WELLING manager Adrian Pennock has warned his players not to under-estimate the challenge of Folkestone in this Saturday's FA Cup Second Qualifying Round clash at Cheriton Road.

The Wings reached the first round proper last season before losing at League 1 Huddersfield in a money-spinning cup run.

"It’s a massive game for us," said Pennock. "We’re in a no-win situation because if we win, people will say that they expected us to but if we lose then it will be a shock.

"We’re going to prepare properly because we want more of what we did last year in the FA Cup. We’re under no illusions, it’s never easy and there are always surprises."

Folkestone failed to win a game until mid-September this season but Pennock knows it will still be a stern examination.

"They’ve won two games on the bounce now but it was a difficult game anyway, even though they had been struggling," he added.

"The pitch is not brilliant down there but the boys are full of confidence."

Che Stadhart is rated 50/50 but Andrew Sam (tonsillitis) is ruled out. Defender Steve Perkins serves the second game of a three-match suspension.

Meanwhile, Pennock has dedicated the team’s win at Basingstoke last Saturday to the memory of former Welling defender John Glover, who passed away last week following a long illness.

"We’ve dedicated that win to John," said Pennock. "He was a terrific servant to Welling and he was well liked by everyone at the club."
