Pennock reveals Welling exit

PENNOCK: "I hope the fans understand"

ADRIAN Pennock has revealed he will quit as Welling manager at the end of this season.

The former Gillingham defender has agreed to link up with Tony Pulis at championship outfit Stoke City.

Pennock will head up the youth section at the club and take charge of the under-18s team.

His final game at Park View Road will be this Saturday's home match with Hayes in Conference South - unless results go Welling's way and the club reach the play-offs.

Pennock said: "I hope the fans understand why I am taking this role on. It was an opportunity that I couldn't turn down."

Pennock, who played under Pulis at Gillingham, has made no secret of his desire to move into the Football League.

He had been linked with the vacant Aldershot and Woking managerial posts but the lure of working with Pulis again proved too much.
