Portsmouth 1 - Gillingham 0

A goal from Ayegbeni Yakubu four minutes after the restart condemned Gillingham to a 1-0 defeat at Premiership Portsmouth.

The Nigerian striker followed up his own shot after Steve Banks had saved from close range.

Two minutes earlier Patrik Berger's shot was tipped onto the crossbar by Banks and the Czech international had also hit the inside of the post in the first half.

Gillingham had chances of their own in the first half but couldn't make the crucial breakthrough.

Darius Henderson's long-range shot had been tipped over the bar by Jamie Ashdown in the 18th minute and the Pompey keeper did well to save from Andy Hessenthaler five minutes later when the former Gills boss was put through by Matt Bodkin.
