Portuguese defender joins Charlton

CHARLTON have completed the signing of Portuguese centre-half Paulo Monteiro.

The 23-year-old, who was a free agent having been released by Romanian outfit Farul Constanta, played for Charlton's reserves against Crystal Palace last month.

He signed a contract until the end of the season on Friday.

"I am very pleased to sign for such a big club, a great club,” he said.

"The camaraderie among the players is very good, and I'm thankful the gaffer has given me such an opportunity.

"It is my ambition to show my value during the rest of the season, and I want to prove I am good enough to play for Charlton and win a longer contract at the end of the season."
