Saturday football preview

BROMLEY are close to welcoming back leading scorer Nic McDonnell after a month on the sidelines for their Ryman League Premier Division match against East Thurrock United at Hayes Lane on Saturday.

A hamstring injury has kept McDonnell out since the trip to Chelmsford and his return will be a big boost as the Lilywhites look to make a last ditch attempt at making the play-offs.

Joe Vines has completed a two-game ban after reaching 10 bookings.

Bromley will be looking to reverse their recent run of poor form which has seen them lose six of their last eight league matches, including a 2-0 defeat at Harrow Borough on Tuesday.

Margate, who have signed defender Robin Trott on an 18-month deal, will try to do better when they host Harrow, while struggling Folkestone Invicta - for who Mark Saunders made a scoring home debut last weekend - travel to Leyton in search of much-needed points.

Ryman League Division 1 title chasers Ramsgate will be aiming to extend their 12-match unbeaten run when they make the trip to Whyteleafe. But they will want the three points having drawn five of their last seven games.

Fellow high-flyers Tonbridge Angels, who lie one place behind Jim Ward's side in the league table, are gunning for their third straight victory when Dulwich Hamlet are the visitors to Longmead.

Dover Athletic host Bashley at Crabble as they try and stay in touch with the promotion contenders.

Whites have released defender Marc Cumberbatch after just two months with the club, but the good news is that striker Jimmy Dryden, who injured himself on holiday, should return to action next week.

Cumberbatch has re-joined Ashford Town, who face a key relegation clash at fellow strugglers Newport IOW and Cray Wanderers make the trip to Walton Casuals.

In Southern League Division 1 East, Sittingbourne aim to continue their recent trend of taking points off teams above them in the Southern League Division 1 East table when they travel to Arlesey Town on Saturday.

Jon Neal (hamstring) and Paul Ainsworth (thigh) is rated as 50-50, but the Brickies do have James Campbell back from a one-match suspension.

Sitts have lost just once in their last five matches and have taken points off three teams better than them in the league standings.

Manager Steve Lovell said: "It would be really good to get a win up there because it would start to close the gap on the many teams all thinking about the play-offs.

Chatham Town are looking to halt a run of three successive defeats when they travel to bottom club Potters Bar Town.

Chats will have Rob Denness back fully fit after the flu and Glenn Billiness available after missing games because of work commitments.

Ex-Chatham striker Brendon Cass is set to make his first Dartford start when they host fifth-placed Barton Rovers.

Darts boss Tony Burman said: "He's got a good chance. He's got a good goal-scoring record and will score goals for us."
