GILLINGHAM manager Mark Stimson is hoping wide-man Dennis Oli has learnt his lesson after suffering a training ground injury.

Oli missed Saturday’s game against Huddersfield after receiving a knock in an incident with defender Garry Richards but Stimson had little sympathy for the 24-year-old.

“He got a nice whack off Garry Richards in training,” said Stimson. “He’s got to learn from that and I said to him it’s simple, don’t play against Garry Richards it’s as simple as that, play out on the wing.

“Garry’s a very strong character. If the ball’s there to be won, whether it’s on the training ground or in the car park, he’ll go and win it.”

Richards was back in the starting line-up on Saturday and Stimson has high hopes for the big central defender.

Stimson said: “He’s one for the future. He’s 21 and he’s a big man. He can pass the ball, head it and sometimes he’s a bit eager to go and win that football, and unfortunately for Dennis he caught him.”
