WELLING were left to rue a series of first half misses as they were held to a draw in the FA Cup third qualifying round at AFC Hornchurch on Saturday.

The Wings dominated the first 45 minutes and had enough opportunities to win two games but had only a 21st minute own goal to show for their efforts.

Martin Carthy's fourth minute header was blocked by his own player Che Stadhart on the line before Ellis Green 20-yard drive was deflected onto the crossbar four minutes later.

The Wings were denied a clear penalty after15 minutes when Matt Bodkin's cross was put on a plate for Chris Moore to head home but hes effort went over the bar after he was shoved from behind.

Welling went ahead when Jamie Day's left-wing corner was diverted into his own net at the near post by Ronnie Fletcher.

Danny Kedwell and Bodkin were both denied again but it was a different story in the second half as the Ryman League Division 1 South hosts came back into the game.

They were on level terms on 49 minutes when Kris Lee outpaced Moore and, although Jamie Turner blocked his shot, Mark Jannie turned in the rebound at the second attempt.

Jannie then hit the post for the home side and late on Lee was sent clean through but wasted the opening after rounding Turner.

The replay takes place at Welling on Wednesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
