WELLING manager Adrian Pennock turned the tables on his side at half-time on Saturday by letting three fans take the team talk.

Pennock invited supporters Matt Mein, Steve Hudson and Rowan Watt into the dressing room after a lacklustre first-half display which saw the Wings 1-0 down against Sutton in the Conference South.

"I was so annoyed with the team," said Pennock. "Our fans have been superb for us – they’ve paid out lots of money this year to follow us at places like Blyth, Huddersfield and Weymouth – and that performance was unacceptable.

"I let the three supporters come in and told the players what I thought and then they had their say. What they said was constructive and the second half was an improvement."

Wings fan Mein said: "It was an amazing experience but I think it was done to make the players feel embarrassed. Adrian had his say and then turned it to us and we told them that it was all-or-nothing for the next 45 minutes.

"Steve Hudson said that we should believe in ourselves more but the whole concept shows what a good manager Adrian Pennock is.

"It would have been a masterstroke had it worked but sadly we couldn’t quite repair the damage from the first half."

Welling, who lost the match 2-1, round off their Conference South campaign at home to Bishop’s Stortford tomorrow (Saturday) with Pennock vowing to make changes to the starting line-up.
