Wings facing former cup rivals in opener

WELLING United will kick off their new Nationwide Conference South campaign by entertaining former Ryman League, Premier Division side Maidenhead United at Park View Road on Saturday, August 14.

The teams last met in an FA Cup second qualifying round tie during the 2002-2003 season.

Welling recorded a 2-1 away win on that occasion thanks to a late Steve Sodje goal.

The opener is followed by trips to St Albans on Tuesday, August 17, and Newport County on Saturday, August 21.

The Wings have been handed a double header with fellow Kent side Margate, who have dropped down from the Nationwide Conference National, over the Christmas holiday period.

Paul Parker’s side are paired with Basingstoke for the Bank Holiday fixtures in August and on Easter Monday.

They end the season with a home game against Lewes on Saturday, April 30, 2005.
