A man has been airlifted to a London hospital with severe leg injuries after an accident.

The incident happened while the man was carrying out tree work on the A20 Ashford Road, Bearsted, at about 12.15pm.

The road was closed both ways for an hour to allow the Kent Air Ambulance to land but has now reopened.

The Health and Safety Executive for Kent is investigating.

George Tyler, 70, of Ashford Road, said: “The helicopter landed in the back garden of a house a few doors away from me, and I thought someone there had been hurt, but then paramedics were running across the road.

“One of the men from the contractors in the front garden on the other side had been badly injured. They blocked off all the traffic in both directions. I was a bit shocked by it all.”
