Car crashes through front door of Allington home

A car carrying two young children has smashed through the front wall of a house in Allington.

The accident happened in Castle Road opposite Hildenborough Crescent at about 3pm.

A mum with her children in the car was involved in a near miss with one or possibly two other vehicles, according to eyewitnesses.

An ambulance was called following the accident but a police spokesman said the woman and her children had escaped injury.

Mr John Seabrook, who owns the property, said: "It's destroyed the brickwork around the front door and pushed the front door into the hall.

"There were two fire engines here at one point, and firefighters inspected the damage and said the house wasn't going to fall down, but there's some fairly large piles of brickwork around."

Mr Seabrook said his insurance company will be inspecting the damage tomorrow.

For now the house has been secured with boards, and following assessment by the insurers repair work is expected to begin soon.

Maidstone Borough councillor for Allington, Dan Daley, says there have been a number of near misses on the road.

Before the accident, he had arranged to meet with highways engineers to discuss how to make Castle Road and Hildenborough Crescent safer.

He said: "I don't know what happened in this case but both roads are subject to people driving too fast so I had been looking at ways we can slow the traffic down and strengthen the junction.

"Sometimes traffic from the London Road comes through there at 40mph, and it is right by Allington Primary School.

"If the car in this instance had been three feet to the left it could have gone into the living room and brought the whole house down so in many ways this was a lucky escape."
